What are Soras Gifts? They are unique, “recycled” (antique or vintage) art boxes that have been cleaned and refinished. Some cracks and stains that show the the box's mysterious past will be cherished and kept. They are left to remind us that the memories of our past are also not perfect, but with time, they become part of the overall beauty. I buy antique or vintage boxes, which are often dirty and broken, and I spend many days to revive their beauty. They are then given a special vintage kimono fabric to match the box.
A Soras Memory Box is a gift with the beauty of the East and the West. They are American antique/vintage art or jewelry boxes (West) that are gently refinished and lined with Japanese silk kimono fabric (East)! Just as each moment of one's life is unique and special, these boxes are one of a kind!
My father was at one point an accomplished Kamakurabori artisan (wood carving and lacquering). As he no longer carves wood, I am using some of his beautiful sketches on boxes that have a place perfect for wood-burning and painting. Most of the boxes, however, are refinished not to look brand new but to show the beauty that can only come from years of a life. Just imagine all the life's events these boxes watched over the years from a shelf or from the desktop! After a box is finished, I usually enjoy seeing it in my house for a few days. It is then ready to be cherished by the new owner with memory items of a special event!
I have boxes that I can’t let go easily. They are the boxes that came broken and dirty. It’s like fostering a child... When those boxes are sold or given as a gift, I actually talk to them and wish them a happy home!.

Daruma Doll

I use this to mark the two pages in my daily planner. One string marks the monthly calendar, and the other marks the daily calendar. It is also great as a book marker. As you read, you will be looking at the top knot, sending you good luck, and the bottom beads say "happiness" in Japanese. lt is hand-made by me, one at a time, with warm thoughts.
